A GRAND TRIPLE HEADER

I had a most interesting Saturday -- for me, anyway.  For starters, I scootered down to the clubhouse for annual flea market and bake sale.  I always find goodies at the bake sale, and this year was no different.  I was scarcely in the door when I was told to buy a piece of the German apple cake.  No, it wasn’t really an order; just a strong recommendation.  As it turned out, I got the last piece.  Oh, boy!  It was delicious!

Next, I motored around very slowly to look at all the things I didn’t want.  That didn’t stop me from picking up a couple of interesting books.  This was also a time when I would greet many old friends here in the park.  I am unable to visit them in their homes because I cannot get up and down steps.

And finally I got to meet my new neighbor next door.  Lynette had been my good neighbor for many years, but now had moved to be with her daughter.  Now Karen has purchased that home.  Cliff had met her about a week ago, and had told me that she seemed like a really nice person.  It turned out that she had a couple of tables at the flea market, and that made it easy to finally meet her.  Actually, she knew who I was before I knew who she was.  I’d pulled up near her tables, and she lookedup and said, “You must be Don!”  To which I responded, “And you must be Karen.”  We did get a chance to chat a bit, and Cliff is right -- Karen is a very nice person to have for a neighbor.

Humor --

Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said, “Shingles.”  So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number, and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had.

Bubba said, “Shingles.'” So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining  room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, “Shingles.”  So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting patiently and asked him what he had. Bubba said, “Shingles.”  The doctor asked, “Where?” Bubba said, “Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload 'em??'”

  1. Yum, apple cake! The best apple cake I had was in Amsterdam, and I don't know if in a taste test it would really be better than the apple cake from Pennsylvania, or if I was just hungrier.

One thing I will say is that British Bramley apples are the tastiest baking apples in the world, and I've got five in my kitchen and I think I better start baking!

  2. I love that you got to meet her! That sounds like a ton of fun.

I wonder how many other people in the park only get to meet fellow residents there in the clubhouse?
