S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.

That stands for "Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America".
And Saturday I was most fortunate to be invited by my friend Boyd to attend such an event.  Even better, they made it into an ice cream social.  “Three flavors,” Boyd told me, “Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.”  Of course I had chocolate, and later learned that it came from Baskin Robbins.  No wonder it tasted so good!

The program consisted of several quartets, plus a chorus, plus a sing-along.  A lot of fun.  Now if you’ve never heard of barbershop quartets, these are a group of four - either men or women -- singing a capella, usually, but not limited to pretty old songs.  If you need more information, try Google.

Fun -

A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-16 flashed by.
The jet jockey decided to show off.
The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, ' watch this! ' and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb..

He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that?

The C-130 pilot said, ' That was impressive, but watch this! '

The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said: ' What did you think of that? '

Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, ' What the heck did you do? '

The C-130 pilot chuckled.
' I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the back,
took a leak,  then got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. '

Us older folks understand this one, it ' s called S.O.S... slower. older, smarter.

  1. Ice cream? In November? Glad you enjoyed the barber-shop quartet. Nice music--needs warm tea.

  2. Oh, Lynn, it hit 88F in San Jose yesterday! We finally got our summer. (Here, slightly to the north, it was a more temperate 80.)
