It's good to get out of the house every now and then, and yesterday I made good use of the opportunity. The morning started off rather chilly, but sunny. It look promising. So off we went – – to the dentist, where I had a tooth filled. Nothing dramatic. Then back home again for a soupy lunch.
But the day wasn't over yet. It was starting to warm up a bit, and I had an appointment with the Veterans Administration for my semi–annual checkup. Going to the V. A. is always a delightful experience. First, a nurse grabs me to weigh me, take my temperature, my blood pressure, and asked me several ridiculous questions. Then she takes me to an exam room where I wait for the doctor. And wait for the doctor. And wait for the doctor. But yesterday had a couple of additional features. In addition to the above mentioned procedures, I also had an injection to prevent shingles. I understand that shingles is a very painful disease. And I also understand that if one has had chickenpox, shingles are more likely. I had had chickenpox as a kid, and have no desire for anything more.
Then my doctor said that she wanted me to get a fasting blood sample. That would mean coming back a second time, and as thrilling as that may sound, somehow I was not enthralled. Then she left the room for some reason, and came back to say that my blood sample did not have to be fasting, so I had that done, too. Nothing like getting it all done the same day. Now I don't have to go back there for another six months, as sad as that may sound. Now I'm waiting for my next doctor's appointment so that I can enjoy this lovely spring weather.

ReplyDeleteThat shingles vaccine is important, glad you got it! I've had friends suffer from the disease (one was in her 20s, another in her 40s). You need to count to 180 very slowly. That's DAYS! Encourage all your over-60s friends to get the jab, even if they have to pay.
