STRANGE, INDEED!

This has been a strange day. With this confounded broken foot, I cannot get around the house on my own -- Cliff pushes me in this rented wheelchair. This is not the kind of wheelchair you may be used to seeing. The hallway in this mobilehome is too narrow for the kind that one can push with one’s hands -- these wheels are too small.

Anyway, after breakfast this morning, I was feeling a bit queasy, and asked Cliff to put me into the recliner chair in the living room, knowing full well that Cliff had errands to run, and I would be there for a while. I dozed a bit, read a bit. I started to feel a bit restless, and perhaps a bit sorry for myself, so I called a few friends to see if they might drop by for a few minutes to chat. All said they were busy, but perhaps in the afternoon. Well, okay. Phht. But one person asked if I watched tv -- no I don’t -- but I remembered that I had a dvd movie to watch. Cliff came back briefly, and set up the movie for me, and I started to watch “A Foreign Field”, an older film that is quite funny in the beginning, and most poignant towards the end. And that started the parade of visitors. Ah, well. It is so nice to know that people care.

FOOLISH QUESTIONS

Most of us have had this happen to us: We are sitting
in a theater or auditorium, and there is an empty seat
next to us. Someone walks up and asks, “Is that seat
occupied”? Foolish question.

A man falls 40 floors down an elevator shaft. Someone
leans in at the top and calls down, “Are you hurt”?
Foolish question.

A woman carrying a newspaper boards a bus. Before she sits down, she puts the paper on the seat and sits on it. A man across the aisle asks, “Are you reading that paper?” Foolish question.

The woman says, “Actually, I am.” A couple of minutes later she stands up, turns the page, and sits back down.

  1. Sounds like she's been on that bus before...

As for the visitors, I well remember my parents putting off dinner at length, waiting for someone to show up; Mom said, If we start, then they'll come!

And Dad answered, Whatever it takes.
