PATAGONIA, Part 2

The only descriptions, if you could call them that, were the titles that Roger put on each of the photos.  I googled each of these, and unsurprisingly, they turned out to be places in Patagonia. There is a lot of information available -- maps, weather, sightseeing suggestions, prayer times, descriptions, and more. Most, thank Heaven, were in English, but one was in Spanish, which I had translated in Google Translate.  So, here we go!

Yaldad is a place with a very small population in the province of Los Lagos, Chile.

Quellón is a Chilean port city and commune in southern Chiloé Island, Los Lagos Region. It is considered an end-station of the Panamerican Highway and the Pacific Coastal Highway.

Pirehueico Lake belongs to the Commune of Panguipulli, and plays
an integrating role between Chile and Argentina.

A few kilometers away from the Southern Road, on the fjords and the vast sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean, there lies Raúl Marín Balmaceda. This small seaside village is located on the Palena River Delta, has very few inhabitants and offers a matchless environment for those who enjoy quietness and relax.

Cisnes (Spanish for Port Swans) is a Chilean commune located in the Aysén Province,

The Carretera Austral (CH-7) is the name given to Chile's Route 7. The highway runs about 1,240 kilometers (770 mi) from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins through rural Patagonia.  (Highway?)

The colonization of Puyuhuapi began in 1935 when two young Germans, Otto Uebel and Karl Ludwig, arrived searching for lands to which to emigrate with their families from Germany, motivated by their spirit of adventure and a fear of war in Europe. They chose the end of the Fjord Puyuhuapi and with the help of some men from Chiloé they began to erect the first constructions and started the complex task of converting virgin forest into fertile land through a system of grazing, in order to begin farming work.

Palena Province is one of the four provinces in the southern Chilean region of Los Lagos.

Due to the eruption of Chaitén Volcano and the subsequent destruction of Chaitén, ...

... Futaleufú is, since March 2009, the new capital of Palena Province.

Pun Fun --

Two cows are standing next to each other in a field.  Daisy says to Dolly, "I was artificially inserted this morning."

"I don't believe you," says Dolly.
"It's true; no bull!" exclaims Daisy.

I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but I couldn't find any.

  1. Pretty places. Reminds me of my friend Nina who got really into genealogy and tracked down her cousins: those of her family who'd survived the Holocaust had fled to the US, Australia, and South America and had been lost to each other. She got to meet some of them.

  2. It would be interesting to compare Chile with Norway, because of the similar land and sea features (fjords etc)

  3. I knew it! I knew it! "I am so smart. S-M-R-T." They're gunneras on Chile's Rt. 7.
