A STORY FROM THE PAST

There was a time, many years ago, when I lived in San Francisco, and my mother lived with my eldest sister and her husband in Belmont, California.  Belmont is about 30 miles south of the City.  I often drove down for the weekends, and this tale is about one of those instances.  At the time my other sister was living in southern California, and she and her two youngsters, Todd and Scott, had come to visit.  And I had brought a date.

It seems that something was needed at the store, so my date and I volunteered to drive down to town to get it.  Little Scott, who at that point was just a toddler, wanted to come along, so off we went.  I parked the car and the three of us went walking down the sidewalk to the store with Scottie between us.   And people were looking at us.
Why?  Well, I had dark brown hair, Scott was very blonde, and my date was a redhead!

This one seems particularly appropriate at this time of year.

  1. My sister and brother-in-law were once helping his brother's family move into a new house in a new town. Only, the brother-in-law and his wife, exhausted, caught some bug. And so my sister and her husband showed up at the BIL's new ward come Sunday with seven little blond kids under the age of seven (can't leave'em with the sick parents, let them get a break.) Got a lot of attention.

Isn't it funny how people react sometimes?

  2. My brother has three sons, the youngest has red hair. The schools the boys go to have been strict but that hasn't stopped the oldest from bleaching his dark hair blonde the first day of summer vacation.

In this day and age, I don't think anyone notices or cares.
