BABIES

Here are all sorts of young ones. Cliff and I had a good time  guessing what some of these animals are. We would make a guess and then I would go hunting on Google images. Some we really knew.

We're pretty sure that this is a baby Aardvark.

Proud parents of a newborn colt.

Cliff convinced me that this is a member of the squirrel family. I did find
a similar photo in baby squirrels.

Baby giraffe – – no kidding!

We came to the conclusion that these are chinchillas. Anyone else have an opinion?

 Can't sleep without my pet.

 Oooh, we love bananas!

Just 'cause we are sloths doesn't mean we're lazy.

 Where's my dinner?

Do these count as babies? Maybe not yet.

But these open mouths certainly do!

**My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

**
He has a mind like a steel trap. It just hasn't caught anything yet.

** There is a difference between knowledge and intelligence. For example, recognizing that a tomato is not a vegetable but a fruit, is knowledge. Knowing not to put it in a fruit salad is intelligence.

GRASS ROOFS, updated

On September 12, I posted some photographs about grass roofs in Norway. I just received an email update from the someone who left a comment on the posting.

Lenore Rushford said, “I couldn't even think flooding in those areas are possible. Well, think about it. Grass roofs can prevent rainwater from dripping, or even from accumulating within your house's vicinity. It's because green roofs absorb rainwater at about 50 to 85 percent of its volume, thus reducing potential flooding in the area and minimizing the pollution that it may cause. Not only that, it also gives your house a distinct and unique design as well.”

Ah, learn something new every day!

BIRDS AND ANIMALS

Here are several photographs of some beautiful – funny – whatever, creatures of the wild.

No, these are not the Three Stooges.

Taking time to smell the flowers before eating them.

This hummer looks perfectly at home on top of the flower.

 Hey Ma, I'm down here!

Blue footed booby's ready for their vaudeville act.

Lunch time. (One caption read "mares eat oats").

 This cockatiel likes flowers.

Don't know what this guy is mad about. Maybe he wanted to roast it himself.

Don't look at me like that! I am naturally cross eyed.

Yeah,  I a funny looking wabbit.

 Just a beautiful scene.

GETTING UP IN THE WORLD

My cockatiel Pepper, manages to get around.  We find her in various places in the house that seemed to be her favorites. But the other day she gave us a new one. Here she is on top of Chipper's cage.

 A slightly different angle.

In the meantime, Chipper was down on the counter paying absolutely no attention to the bird above him.

I mentioned we find Pepper in different locations. Here are a few examples.

She is on the "bucket". This is really her nesting area. Notice the white stick
at the other end of the basket. That is actually a ladder which she takes to get up and down.

Here is one of her favorite places to snooze. Yes, that is an electrical outlet.

But this is also something new. Never before has she agreed to ride on my hemi –walker.
Yes, she does get around. Sometimes on her own. Sometimes as a passenger.

DOLPHINS

As you may know, dolphins are a part of the whale family. As such, they are mammals. And they appear to be very intelligent. They are also very friendly, and appear to be smiling. The first five photographs come from a video taken at an aquarium in Baltimore. They are trying to determine the level of intelligence in these remarkable animals. Enjoy the show!

 She tosses him the ball…

 And he catches it,

and then tosses it back to her.

The experimenters wanted to demonstrate that dolphins recognize themselves when looking in a mirror. Many animals, when looking in a mirror, think it is another animal, but apparently the dolphins know what they are looking at. This photo and the next one appear to show that recognition.

Hey, look  at you! You are upside down twice!

These next several shots are obviously out in the ocean.

 I just flip for you!

This gives you an idea of their size.

 Very friendly!

 Humor – –

A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and tapped him on the shoulder. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.

For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, and then the still shaking driver said, “I'm sorry, but
you scared the daylights out of me.”
The frightened passenger apologized to the driver and said he didn't realize a mere tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much.

The driver replied, “No, no, I'm sorry; it's entirely my fault. Today is my first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for the last 25 years.”

PATHWAYS

Here are a dozen different ways to get from here to there. Some seem quite benign; others are not my style, thank you. Perhaps you are more brave than I.

Wherever it leads, it's a beautiful way to go.

Gorgeous view, but if you're driving, keep your eyes on the road.

 Well, that looks easy enough.

No thank you. I like to see where I'm going.

Uh, I'll pass!

I can't even tell what this is.

My heavens, there are even two lanes.

Well, here's an easy way to go.

That's not too bad if you don't get car sick.

Here's another one I will happily skip.

Ah ha!  This I recognize! This is the California Street hill in San Francisco, where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.  As a fearless San Franciscan, I drove up and down this hill many times.

And this is Lombard Street in San Francisco, that famous twisty street that is
one way only, down, of course.  I have driven it many times.
